La giacca da lavoro nasce in Francia intorno al XIX secolo e diventa presto l'indumento più utilizzato per chi esercitava qualsiasi professione.


Il tipico colore blu viene utilizzato dai tessili francesi per nascondere eventuali strappi e macchie ed era generalmente indossato da agricoltori, artigiani, lavoratori automobilistici e ferrovieri. Il nero era la scelta preferita dai falegnami.

Uno degli aspetti che più caratterizza le bleu de travail è sicuramente, in alcuni capi, il tipico cotone hbt.


Le giacche da lavoro tornarono poi di moda intorno agli anni '50, fino a diventare pezzi iconici nel mondo dell'abbigliamento vintage.
