The German Army Strichmuster DDR Pants are distinctive military trousers of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), known for their vertically striped camouflage pattern called Strichmuster (literally "stripe pattern").
Introduced as part of the standard uniform of the GDR army, known as the Nationale Volksarmee (NVA), these trousers were produced and used from post-World War II until German reunification in 1990. Their design responded to the need for practical, durable and affordable clothing, reflecting the priorities of a socialist nation that focused on functionality and efficiency. The Strichmuster pattern is distinguished by thin vertical stripes running across the fabric, designed to provide a degree of camouflage in woodland or grassy environments, but without adopting complex camouflage patterns such as the "Woodland" or "Flecktarn" of West Germany.
