N3B civilian parka. Made in the USA. Produced in the 1970s. Emar zip. The color of the jacket is, in our opinion, incredible: it features unique shades of blue.
Originally designed in the 1950s for the USAF, this parka was created to meet the needs of aircrews operating in extreme conditions. Evolving from the first 1945 model, the "Jacket, Aircrew, Heavy, Type N-3," the N-3B represents the pinnacle of innovation in cold-weather clothing.
Crafted from durable nylon, the N-3B parka offers a durable outer shell, while the polyester fill ensures lightweight warmth. The fleece-lined hood, trimmed with faux fur, provides additional protection from the cold. The durable zipper is covered by a storm flap, ensuring wind and moisture can't get in.
The N-3B has undergone several evolutions over the years. From its initial olive green nylon with wolf fur trim, the model has undergone updates, undergoing various color schemes and specifications. In 1958, the parka took on its current form with the MIL-J-6279A specification, becoming known as the N-3B.
In the 1970s, the specification evolved into MIL-J-6279F, with a color change to "Sage Green" and the introduction of warmer polyester insulation. The nomenclature changed over time, eventually becoming "Parka, Extreme Cold Weather, Type N-3B." Today, the current specification is MIL-DTL-6279M, maintaining the legacy of a garment designed to withstand the harshest conditions.
Condition: excellent.
Shoulder measurements and sleeve length may be subject to errors as the construction features raglan sleeves.
