The work jacket originated in France in the 19th century, quickly establishing itself as the most commonly used garment by those who performed various professions.
The blue color, typical of jackets, was chosen by French weavers to hide tears and stains, and was commonly adopted by farmers, craftsmen, workers in the automobile industry and railway workers. The black color, on the other hand, was preferred by carpenters.
One of the most distinctive features of bleu de travail is the hbt (herringbone twill) cotton used in some garments.
In the 1950s, work jackets came back into fashion, becoming iconic symbols in the world of vintage clothing.
