Originally designed in the 1950s for the USAF, this parka was created to meet the needs of aircrews operating in extreme conditions. Evolving from the first model in 1945, the "Jacket, Aircrew, Heavy, Type N-3", the N-3B represents the pinnacle of innovation in cold weather clothing.
Design & Features Crafted from 100% durable nylon, the N-3B Parka provides a durable outer shell, while polyester padding ensures lightweight warmth. A fleece-lined hood trimmed with faux fur provides additional protection from the cold. The durable zipper is covered by a storm flap, ensuring that wind and moisture cannot penetrate.
With a practical and functional design, the parka features:
Two large and spacious cargo pockets , perfect for storing essentials.
Two handwarmer pockets keep your hands warm on colder days.
Pen/storage pocket on left sleeve for quick access to small items.
History and Evolution The N-3B has gone through several evolutions over the years. From its first edition in olive drab nylon with wolf fur trim, the model has been updated, passing through various colors and specifications. In 1958, the parka took on its current form with the MIL-J-6279A specification, becoming known as the N-3B.
In the 1970s, the specification evolved into MIL-J-6279F, with a color change to “Sage Green” and the introduction of warmer polyester insulation. The nomenclature changed over time, eventually becoming “Parka, Extreme Cold Weather, Type N-3B.” Today, the current specification is MIL-DTL-6279M, maintaining the legacy of a garment designed to handle the harshest conditions.
