Fruit of the Loom Story:

The brand dates back to 1851, when Rhode Island textile manufacturer Robert Knight reportedly visited his friend Rufus Skeel, who owned a small shop that sold Knight's products.

Skeel's daughter supposedly had the idea of painting pictures of fruit as labels for the rolls of fabric her father sold: these drawings were very popular with the public, and thus the company's name and logo were born.

The Fruit of the Loom trademark was registered in 1871, just one year after Congress passed laws introducing the trademark into U.S. law.

The company was owned by Northwest Industries, Inc. until that group was purchased by William F. Farley in 1985 and renamed Farley Industries, Inc.
