Champion's history dates back to the late 19th century, when two brothers of Italian descent, Feinbloom, founded the company in Rochester, New York, in 1919. Initially known as the "Knickerbocker Knitting Company," the company focused on the production of underwear and knitwear for athletes.

In the 1930s, Champion introduced the first technical garment for sports, the double-layer reversible t-shirt, which achieved great success especially among American football and baseball athletes. Over the years, Champion has continued to innovate in the field of sportswear, introducing increasingly advanced fabrics and designs to improve athletes' performance.

During the 20th century, Champion became a renowned brand in sportswear, providing uniforms for various professional and college teams across the United States. Meanwhile, the brand was also expanding internationally, becoming a significant presence in the global sportswear market.
