The history of the Carhartt Detroit Jacket is rooted in the industrial and work heritage of the United States. Founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt in Detroit, Michigan, Carhartt has earned a reputation for ruggedness and durability in the workwear industry. The Detroit Jacket has become one of the brand's most iconic pieces.
The jacket was originally designed for workers working in the harsh conditions of the automotive and construction industries. It was known for its durability and functionality, with features such as durable cotton fabric, reinforced seams and a silhouette suited to physical work.
Over the years, it has gained popularity outside of the workplace. Its rugged, no-frills aesthetic has attracted streetwear and outdoor enthusiasts. The jacket’s versatility, combined with its durability, has contributed to its longevity as an iconic piece of clothing.
