After officially separating from the military in 1947, the United States Air Force (USAF) adopted its own distinct visual identity and uniform regulations. One of the most iconic pieces of this period was the USAF Service Jacket, also known as the "Ike Jacket," named after General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who popularized the style during World War II. Officially introduced in 1949, the jacket was made in Winter Blue Shade 84 and Summer Tan Shade 193, although the blue version was regulation and mandatory, while the tan version was considered optional.

The first model adopted by the USAF was an exact copy of the Army version, but with a color scheme appropriate to the new armed forces. A second design was later introduced with modifications that improved fit and comfort, including a more horizontal lapel line, a wider cut for greater freedom of movement, a predominantly zipped front closure with a concealed flap, adjustable tabs on the back, and cuffs closed with a dark blue composition button. The jacket was fully lined and closed at the waist with a system of buttons and snaps that ensured a clean and tight fit, while the chest pockets had flaps with snap closures. Regulations required the jacket to partially cover the belt and have a blouson effect, and the use of jockstraps was recommended to avoid empty spaces between the jacket and trousers.

The Ike Jacket remained in use for several years and was officially retired on May 31, 1964, but over time numerous variations were created in both regulation models and those privately produced, especially abroad, with stylistic and construction differences.
